Why should you keep evenings to yourself.
Fuck yeah! What needs to be done needs to be done and I couldn’t have emphasized on it more than what I did Here.
Notwithstanding, and even at the cost of being called ironic, I write out to you, My fellow friends and readers.
Prologue
So I’ve been working on chasing a dream . Real bad. That bad a want to do it that the life choices are at stake.
As it happens with any dreamer, The first attempt of the creation went in learning as to what it it that I wanted in my life.
“The search for purpose” as they say.
Long story short, in the process of creation, with all the passion , resources and abilities we are so engrossed in pushing the bar higher that we stop catering to this very important and rewarding phase of our lives. It could be any mission, your life mission where you are so determined to achieve the goal that you forget to enjoy life as the most beautiful you emerges out of your efforts and the ability to push your limits.
Why keep the Evenings?
The mind is wired to put the physical entity that engulfs it in as much comfort it can and the only efforts that would seep out will be the ones that this physical self requires absolutely and its then we override this wiring. Simple tasks like going to pee seems like a task but needs to be done because it can’t be delayed any further and that’s nothing you can do about it than to face the music. The body then does the effort of what needs to be done.
Simply put, the mind is always asking for physical comfort .Its tuned that way. The only way to over ride this wiring is to lay an incentive based system. Whenever I do something , work hard for some goal, do more workout than the previous day or achieve a significant milestone, I give a treat to myself . Could be a small thing, from getting momos to splurging in some wine. Whatever I can. So , this thing is like downscaling it to everyday.
Then there would be arguments about then what’s the difference in doing the own thing and taking up a job if I was to still look forward to eveniings or weekends? to this, my friend all I can say out of personal experience is that even in the process of achieving we tend to neglect the amount of hard work we put in .
Again , the mind is wired to think the things undone, the tasks left unattended or stuff like that. Describe the last time you knew you slogged your ass out in a day and how much did you pat on your back ?
Lean back, the Evenings are here to reward you in your way. I know it excites you to give it your every penny and every second to the dream but also remember to take care of your physical and mental health.
What to do?
Be prepared to keep up the task.
To be able enough to take it to the fag end of destiny.
To be Physically fit and mentally stable to be able to achieve your dream while being cheerful in the transition . Specially early days. It can get a little overwhelming and if you’re reading this ,you know what I am talking about.
Breaking the Routine
Whatever takes most of your time, To be able to introduce a couple of hour indulging in other than that.
For Example: If you’re raising a tech start up and most of your day is on a cellphone or in front of a laptop, Take a break from that routine atleast for a couple of hours. May be Evening?
While it can be anything of your choosing, the following list works for me
- Exercise – Self work out if travelling
- Walk or a hike
- Go for a drive
- Listen to some good music
- Speak to an Old friend
- Surprise calls to your family
- Treat yourself with something you love
- Dinner Escapes
- Coffee?
- Brush your teeth.
- Take a shower
- Go for a Head Massage (If in India , ask any barber for it and its affordable.)
- visit your nearby park for a stroll
- Have some furry friend time
- Go cycling
- Meditate
- Read a book in installments.
- Many more (Whatever makes you happy!)
Keep the evening to yourself . For the life is passing by still as you’re in the process to claim yours. Take occasional breaks and I found it only added to the overall performance and productivity and helps me keep fit and in shape .
